Budda Oliver asked:
It has always been said that change is a good thing. There are some people that will agree with this statement and others that will most likely not agree. Changing the environment in which one lives can be one of the harder changes in life to adjust to. Some people are good at adjusting to this change and embrace it to the fullest extent and others will have a very difficult time with the adjustment and need time to settle in.
Adjusting to a new living environment can mean a great deal of different things. For instance this could mean moving to a new neighborhood, city, or even country. This could also mean co-habitating with people whom you are not used to living with; i.e. a new roommate, a significant other, or for some children, a step-parent. Families may leave a house that they have lived in for a number of years and move into a new house that has just been built specifically for their expanding brood. Empty-nesters may decide to downgrade the size of their housing unit and move to a smaller home in a location closer to a relaxed community on the water.
Any of these above situations could trigger a reaction of someone who is going to have to deal with a changing living environment. There are a few things that people can do in order to make this transition as easy as possible.
When coming into any of these situations a person brings in their own expectations from previous experiences. If a new living environment involves living with new people, for instance, a person may have to adjust to the other person’s way of doing things. When more than one person is living in a space it is necessary, for the living situation to succeed, for each person to alter their behavior accordingly so that everyone feels comfortable and accommodated.
When moving to a new neighborhood or area a person or a family may need to amend their way of living in terms of meeting new people and learning the new area.
Someone who moves into a brand new home has to amend their living environment because they will have to make this house a home by decorating, making it their own and making it a comfortable place for their family to dwell.
Adjusting to a new living environment can be a difficult thing but if one goes into it with an open mind then the experience will be a positive one rather than one that is overanalyzed and where expectations go in the wrong direction.
